Dr. Michael Weiss offers restorative and general dentistry services, including dental implants and dentures, to his patients in Philadelphia, including the borough of Jenkintown, Abington township, and Eastern Montgomery county. In addition to hygiene maintenance and head and neck cancer examination performed at every check-up, Dr. Weiss provides restorative treatments using state-of-the-art technology. He also employs technology to detect potential problems before they lead to more involved treatment.
DENTAL CROWNS
Dental crowns reinforce the structure of a tooth that is badly damaged from decay or fractures. Made of porcelain (ceramic) or porcelain-metal, dental crowns protect the tooth and strengthen its structure. In just two visits, your tooth will be stronger and look better than ever. DENTAL BRIDGES
Consisting of a false tooth anchored by dental crowns or implants on either side, dental bridges provide continuity in areas of the mouth missing one or more teeth. The procedure is usually completed in two visits, the first of which consists of preparing your mouth for the bridge. When your custom-made dental bridge is ready, Dr. Weiss will secure the crowns over the anchor teeth.
DENTURES
For patients who are missing multiple teeth, dentures are false teeth that can be removed for cleaning at night. An alternative to permanent options like dental implants or bridges, dentures keep the jaw and bones strong and healthy by preventing them from falling into disuse.
DENTAL IMPLANTS
For patients who would like a permanent option to replace missing teeth, dental implants help prevent bone loss in the jaw, stop gum recession, do not decay, and blend with the rest of your natural teeth. The dental implant procedure is completed over the course of several visits. Dr. Weiss coordinates all procedures with the necessary specialists and his patients. Once the implant specialist gently places the titanium implants, Dr. Weiss will then affix a crown or appropriate prosthesis to the implants. Click here to read more about dental implants.
ORAL CANCER SCREENING
Oral cancer screenings help detect cancer at an early stage, when treatment is typically the most successful. Dr. Weiss performs this examination at every check-up.C
TMJ TREATMENT
Characterized by a misalignment of the joint connecting the upper part of the mouth and lower part of the jaw, TMJ dysfunction causes pain in the jaw, ears, and tooth damage. Dr. Weiss offers treatment of TMJ including bite appliance therapy and bite plates to address the cause of the disorder. Comprehensive TMJ treatment corrects the alignment of your jaw and can alleviate headaches and pain.
TEETH GRINDING
A leading cause of TMJ dysfunction, teeth grinding, also called bruxism, can reduce tooth enamel and increase pressure on the jaw, often resulting in serious damage. To treat this condition and prevent further damage, Dr. Weiss will create a customized bite plate that hugs the contours of your teeth to prevent you from grinding them. If indicated, Dr. Weiss will discuss with patients, occlusal equilibration (bite adjustment) therapy.
CARIVU – CAVITY DETECTION
Our office has introduced a new technology, the CariVu. The CariVu is a portable device that detects caries (decay) through transillumination. CariVu uses no ionizing radiation. Instead CariVu works by hugging the tooth and bathing the tooth with safe, near-infrared light. The device identifies caries on the occlusal (biting), and interproximal (between) surfaces. CariVu’s transillumination makes the enamel appear transparent while porous carious lesions trap and absorb the light. Those carious lesions appear dark while the healthy tooth surfaces appear white. CariVu allows us to identify caries at an earlier stage, making treatment more conservative. Also, CariVu gives Dr. Weiss a very good picture of the exact location of any decay. CariVu is not a replacement for x-rays but it will minimize the number of x-rays. Learn more about CariVu cavity detection.
