Philadelphia Full-Mouth Reconstruction

Full-mouth reconstruction involves restoration or replacement of each tooth in the mouth. Philadelphia accredited cosmetic dentist Dr. Michael Weiss and Dr. Goldwater both provide this treatment and produce beautiful smile transformations.

When Is Full-Mouth Reconstruction Needed?

Full-mouth reconstruction is required when there is major oral dysfunction which can result in a disorder called TMJ disorder. The temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) is the complex joint where the lower jaw attaches to the skull. Serious issues with your teeth, how they come together and function, can cause debilitating functional problems, jaw pain, and headaches. When this joint isn’t functioning properly, there can be tenderness in the muscles that attach the jaws together including painful spasms. Here are some of those issues that can cause that major dysfunction:

  • Badly decayed or worn teeth
  • Broken teeth
  • Teeth damaged by trauma
  • Misaligned teeth that don’t meet in a comfortable bite
  • Misshaped teeth
  • Missing teeth, which can result in adjoining teeth tipping into the empty space
  • Lost vertical dimension, which can include short or worn down teeth that results in overclosure of the jaws
  • Upper teeth that severely overlap the lower teeth

What Is the Solution?

Full-mouth reconstruction can involve a combination of dental treatments. An examination is required to determine your options, but some possibilities are included below.

Dental crowns

Crowns cover and protect teeth that can be saved but are still badly worn, decayed, or damaged. The affected teeth will be tapered to accommodate crowns. Dr. Weiss and Dr. Goldwater provide crowns that mimic the shade, translucency, and gloss of natural teeth. Customized crowns are made with characteristics that complement your facial features.

The photos below are an example of how Dr. Weiss uses dental crowns to rejuvenate smiles.

Orthodontic re-alignment

If you have teeth that have tipped out of alignment, some minor orthodontic treatment may be needed to right them.

Dental implants

If you have missing teeth, dental implants are the healthiest and most natural-looking way to replace them. Each tooth can be replaced with an implant, or a dental bridge can be anchored by implants to replace missing teeth. The implants are restored with crowns.

What Can You Expect with Full-Mouth Reconstruction?
